Information About the Arthur Ransome Trust Project: Temporary Moorings.

This page contains introductory information about temporary Arthur Ransome Trust exhibitions in the Lake District.

.

Temporary Moorings is an occasional programme of temporary exhibitions in the Lake District. We envisage these acting as a starting point, as we build towards our long term aim of a permanent Ransome Home.

Temporary Moorings exhibitions may take place in partnership with existing organisations in the southern Lake District, including those with Arthur Ransome or Ransome-related interests. They may offer a general introduction to Arthur Ransome, but will mainly focus on particular aspects of his life and works. Some Temporary Moorings will be co-ordinated with our Camp Fires programme of public lectures and seminars.

Latest Developments

Brantwood Exhibition ImageOur first Temporary Moorings exhibition took place from May to September, 2011, in partnership with The Brantwood Trust at Brantwood, John Ruskin’s former home beside Coniston Water.

Titled Imagination and Reality: the Art of Arthur Ransome, the exhibition explored Arthur Ransome’s approach to illustrating the landscapes and plots of the Swallows and Amazons novels. The exhibition included examples of his original sketch books and original artwork.

A Camp Fires programme of public lectures and events ran alongside the exhibition.

We were very grateful to The Brantwood Trust for their advice, partnership and support; the Lakeland Arts Trust and the Brotherton Collection, Leeds University Library for their enthusiastic support, including the loan of original materials; and the Arthur Ransome Literary Estate for help and support, including with permissions.

W will announce details of future Temporary Moorings exhibitions as soon as we can.
