If you missed it and are in Cumbria from 8 – 10 June, then please do come to the Holker Hall Garden Festival, where the Trust will have a mini-exhibition about Arthur Ransome, the Trust’s plans for an Arthur Ransome Centre, and Pigeon Post. It will be great to see you there.

Her latest installment adds extracts from Suzanna Hamilton’s diary. Suzanna, credited as Zanna Hamilton, played Susan.

The initial list of twenty titles will be launched in August, 2012. It will include Swallows and Amazons and Swallowdale, the first two novels in Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons series.

The initial list also includes Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, E Nesbit’s The Railway Children, and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.

Vintage plan to follow the first two Ransome novels with Peter Duck, Winter Holiday, Coot Club and Pigeon Post by early 2013.

Each of the new editions will contain exclusive additional “back story” material. More information is available from Vintage Classic’s press release.

These new Ransome editions do not replace the original Jonathan Cape Hardback or Red Fox paperback editions, both of which will remain in print.

The Space is a collaboration between Arts Council England and the BBC. It is due to launch on May 1 as an online channel showing theatrical content.

Arts Council England are providing £3.5M to 53 theatrical companies to help film their productions. Participants include Shakespeare’s Globe and Saddler’s Wells, as well as the Bristol Old Vic.

According to The Stage, the BBC will use techniques pioneered by its Natural History Unit to capture the emotional experience of a live performance of Swallows and Amazons.

For those who can’t wait until The Space goes live – or would rather have the live experience first hand – Swallows and Amazons is currently still on tour. It is in High Wycombe this week, Malvern from Tuesday 28 February – Saturday 3 March, and Darlington from Tuesday 6 – Saturday 10 March. The tour contines every week until it reaches Cardiff in May. The show also found approval with the Evening Standard and Official London Theatre, as well as farther field, where the Chicago Tribune looks ahead to say: “Following a four-month U.K. tour, its hugely appealing good humor and heart deserve a return engagement at the very least.”

The Standard comments that Tom Morris, the director, has “struck gold again with this inventive and enjoyable adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s classic Swallows and Amazons”, whilst Official London Theatre rightly comment that his “production challenges the audience’s creativity at every turn”.

The Musical runs at the Vaudeville until January 14, then begins a four month UK tour.
